About the author
Dr. Daggubati Venkateswara
Rao was born on December
14, 1953 at Karamchedu
village of Prakasam district in Andhra
Pradesh. After completing MBBS and
while prosecuting post-graduation
in paediatrics, he joined the Telugu
Desam Party [the same day] floated
by his father-in-law on March 29,
1982. He played a key-role throughout
thereaffter.
With socialistic approach, he made major contribution in the making of the party manifesto. Dr. Venkateswara Rao served the party in several capacities as president of the Telugu Yuvata, secretary of the TDP and leader of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party. He had been elected for five terms to Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Prakasam district, once to the Lok Sabha from Bapatla and once to the Rajya Sabha. He knows not what defeat is during his 28-long years of political experience. He served N.T.Rama Rao’s cabinet as health minister. As a member of various parliamentary committees, he visited many countries and represented India at the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization [UNO] . He remained opposed to Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu during aftermath incidents, when Mr. Rama Rao lost power in 1996. Later, he joined the Congress and now he is a sitting MLA of the party. Mrs. Daggubati Purandeswari, Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development, who is the daughter of Mr. Rama Rao, is the better half of Dr. Venkateswara Rao. |
